North Sea Prehistory Research and Management Framework

The North Sea Prehistory and Management Framework, which captures all available knowledge about the English North Sea’s submerged prehistory to support future investigation and management, is now live and is being launched at two webinars on 10 March 2023.

North Sea Prehistory Research and Management Framework

Delivered by Landward Research, funded by The Crown Estate via the Offshore Wind Evidence and Change Programme and Historic England, and supported by Wessex Archaeology and a steering group of consultants and academic researchers, the North Sea Prehistory and Management Framework is all set to be a valuable resource.

The growth in offshore wind means more areas of the seabed are being explored to support development. This improves our understanding of the landscape which was inhabited thousands of years ago in the area we now know as the North Sea, long before it flooded.

By pulling pre-existing research about the North Sea’s English sector into one place, the newly updated framework has helped inform a set of questions and areas that will guide the future direction of academic and development-led work.
