Alia Fares
Alia joined Landward Research Ltd as Heritage Adviser in 2021, developing new cultural heritage and tourism projects and partnerships in Lebanon.
Alia has worked for almost a decade as a lecturer in the History of Architecture at various universities in Lebanon (American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University, Notre Dame University – Louiaze and Rafik Hariri University).
She is also a national archaeology and heritage expert for the German Development Bank (KfW) and works with the German Archaeological Institute in Lebanon, working at various locations around the country. She assists the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Culture at the Department of Antiquities in developing strategies to preserve heritage sites, as well as in educating new generations of local tourism and heritage experts.
She dedicates much of her remaining free time to the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association, a non-profit organization that aims to protect the cultural and natural heritage of Lebanon through a 470km long distance hiking trail, which passes through more than 76 rural villages. She dedicates hope, knowledge and passion to support this national project for the sake of a cleaner, happier and permanently lasting natural and cultural environment.
